STOLEN KISS
This editorial was created in collaboration with a popular female empowering platform called CURATED BY GIRLS. For this shoot, I was inspired by recent events in the UK pertaining to the idea of women feeling unsafe, and all the protests that took place following the murder of Sarah Everard. It is after having come across shocking statistics on sexual harassment that I decided to focus on the theme of catcalling.
The choice of the model was very specific. An Asian female model was chosen not only to show diversity, but also because it often occurs that Asian women are sexually objectified, fetishized and catcalled. Hence the projected presence of a Sphynx-type cat in the photoshoot, the paradox being that these cats are not generally considered as physically appealing, and therefore would contrast perfectly with the type of model desired.
Unfortunately, it was not possible to follow through with the original concept of the photoshoot. The project was therefore modified, the idea now being the empowerment of women, whilst simultaneously educating men. The goal of the editorial therefore basically remained the same. I carried out a survey asking women what men should do to help make them feel safe and respected in their everyday lives, and then grouped their answers and placed them amongst the images, in order for the BEIGE Magazine audience to further understand the message hidden behind the images.
